Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kreayshawn and Wikipedia

There is always music on in my apartment.

Justin and I take turns governing the speakers, generally both defaulting to our hypem playlists to avoid overplaying any of our favourite albums. Taking some time to unwind after work yesterday we decided to check out the Red Hot Chili Peppers' new song (RHCP). We tried a few times to find a version that didn't sound like this and ended up on YouTube searching for an official video. After a few unsuccessful search attempts we defaulted to Wikipedia.

Now, I have a love/hate relationship with Wikipedia. I love it because it's full of fantastic information generally presented in a clean and consistent format; I hate it because I have been exposed to the way in which it is able to suck a user into it's intertwined spider web of related links. Each link is filled with the possibility of new. I have lost Justin many times to the abyss of information that is Wikipedia and after last night I now understand why. In reading a wiki dedicated to The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie, the RHCP single that we had been searching for, we discovered that the official video was yet to be produced. We were fortunate enough to be educated that it would be directed by none other then Kreayshawn. In reading this I was left in a bit of disbelief and well, laughing. Justin just looked at me curiously - my guess is that he was probably trying to comprehend how I had actually remembered someone's name little lone any association to it. To be truthful I only knew the name because of Twitter.

I believe it all stems back to a conversation that took place between Kyle, Nicky and Georgia - in particular a reference to getting kreay kreay that weekend and of course Kreayshaw's Gucci Gucci. If you need it spelled out, kreay kreay means crazy. I don't remember the logistics of how I ended up watching the video, but I instantly took a liking to it - subsequently overplaying the song for the next week. Because I had overplayed it while doing activities such as cooking and cleaning I figured Justin would recognize it if he heard it so we hopped back to hypem to try and trigger some recognition. After the first few seconds he wasn't looking overly enthused and then I remember why I had originally taken a liking to the song... the video.

It's not necessarily what you would expect having listened to the song first. It was agreed that this video is pretty entertaining. I'm certainly interested in how she will portray the Red Hot Chili Peppers in their upcoming collaboration. Apparently she went to a Berkley film school, who knew.

I also have to add that in reading the RHCP wikipedia I was led to more entirely understanding who Rick Rubin is - he is responsible for producing the Maggie single that we were looking for. He's obviously had a big hand in shaping the music industry into what it is today, that said I was really enthused by the list of bands he had share his undeniable talent with.

Dixie Chicks certainly look out of place squished between the likes of Slipknot and Metallica, Adele seems a little out of place as well but I've got no hate for that woman.

And that is my random ramblings for today.
